University of Connecticut Professor Honored With Book of the Year Award

Claire Costley King’oo, associate professor of English at the University of Connecticut, received the 2012 Book of the Year Award from the Conference of Christianity and Literature. She was honored for her book Miserere Mei: The Penitential Psalms in Late Medieval and Early Modern England (University of Notre Dame Press, 2012).

The book examines the importance of seven chapters from the biblical book of Psalms in England between the late 14th century and the beginning of the 17th century. The book takes its name from Psalm 51 which in Latin begins, “Miserere mei.” This phrase translates as “Have mercy on me.”

Dr. King’oo joined the faculty at the University of Connecticut in 2005. She is a graduate of the University of Oxford in England and holds a master’s degree and a Ph.D. in English from the University of Pennsylvania.
