Women’s Center at the University of Massachusetts Celebrates Its 40th Anniversary

CWCThe Center for Women and Community at the University of Massachusetts at Amherst will be celebrating its 40th anniversary later this month. Formerly known as the Everywoman’s Center, the CWC is one of the oldest continually operating women’s center at an American university.

The CWC was launched in the fall of 1972 as a project of the Division of Continuing Education with the goal of helping older women obtain their career and educational goals. At that time the center had two staff members.

Today the CWC employs 12 staff members and has 50 volunteers and interns. Half of the CWC’s funding comes from the university and the remainder from grants from the state and federal government and private foundations.
