Sylvia Cox Appointed President of Rockingham Community College in North Carolina

Sylvia Cox has been named the sixth president of Rockingham Community College, effective May 1. According to the most recent federal data the North Carolina-based community college enrolls nearly 1,800 students, 63 percent of whom are women.

For the past four years, Dr. Cox has served as executive vice president and chief academic officer at Southeastern Community College in Whiteville, North Carolina. In this role, she oversaw the institution’s academic affairs, workforce development, and student services.

“I look forward to collaborating with the college’s exceptional team and the board of trustees to build on RCC’s strong foundation and ensure that we continue providing transformative opportunities for students and the broader community,” said Dr. Cox. “I am excited to become part of Rockingham County and fully immerse myself in this wonderful community.”

A first-generation college graduate, Dr. Cox holds a bachelor’s degree in history from North Carolina State University, a master’s degree in educational reading from the University of North Carolina at Wilmington, and a doctorate in higher education executive leadership from Wingate University in North Carolina.
