Roger Williams University Announces New Scholarship to Support Women Engineering Students

Ioannis Miaoulis, president of Roger Willians University in Bristol, Rhode Island, has recently established the Ioannis Miaoulis Women in Engineering Scholarship, a new endowed scholarship aimed at supporting students pursuing an engineering degree at the university.

A former dean of the Tufts University School of Engineering, President Miaoulis has dedicated his career to advancing STEM education, including developing new opportunities for women engineering students. Over the course of his tenure at the helm of Tufts’ engineering school, the number of women studying engineering increased by 30 percent.

The Ioannis Miaoulis Women in Engineering Scholarship is open to all engineering majors at Roger Williams University who have experiences advocating for women’s equity and empowerment in engineering and technology disciplines.

“I am the proud father of two daughters who both gained engineering degrees. I am committed to providing an educational pathway for the future engineers who will shape and improve the field,” said President Miaoulis. “Endowing this scholarship combines my life loves of family and STEM. Providing greater access to a degree with financial assistance fosters talented and innovative engineers who serve as role models to young girls like my granddaughters, who I hope will follow in their mothers’ and my footsteps.”
