New Grants or Gifts Relating to Women in Higher Education

Here is this week’s news of grants and gifts that may be of particular interest to women in higher education.

Yale University received a five-year, $15 million grant from the National Institutes of Health to explore gender differences in autism spectrum disorders. Young girls are only one fifth as likely as young boys to be diagnosed with autism spectrum disorders. About 1 in every 88 children in the United States have these disorders.

The College of Nursing at East Carolina University in Greenville, North Carolina, received a three-year, $1.1 million grant from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services  to set up a virtual clinic with the goal of improving women’s health. The grant will be used to expand the university’s Virtual Community Clinic Learning Environment to include online programs on nurse-midwifery and women’s health in rural communities. The program is under the direction of Dr. Pamela Reis, an assistant professor of nurse-midwifery education at East Carolina University.
