Lynne Coy-Organ Is the First Woman President of Husson University

Husson University in Bangor, Maine has selected Lynne Coy-Organ as their 7th president, making her the first woman to hold the position in the school’s 125-year history.

Husson University enrolls roughly 2400 undergraduate and 600 graduate students. The undergraduate student body is 59 percent women.

Dr. Coy-Organ has been a member of the Husson community since 2005, when she was brought on as dean of the School of Education. In 2009, she was elevated to her current role of provost and senior vice president for academic affairs. In addition to her long-standing career in higher education, Dr. Coy-Organ has experience in the public school system including principal for the Bangor School Department, and later principal of SAD 68 in Dover-Foxcroft, Maine. She also served in a number of educational roles in the Montgomery County Public School system located in Maryland.

“It has been my privilege to serve as senior vice president and provost for the last 15 years and I am truly honored to become Husson University’s next president,” said Dr. Coy-Ogan. “I believe strongly in Husson’s mission and look forward to moving the institution forward toward our shared vision of excellence.”

Dr. Coy-Organ received her bachelor’s degree in elementary/special education from Boston University, her master’s degree in school counseling from Johns Hopkins University and her Ed.D. in educational leadership from Liberty University in Virginia.

Dr. Geneco comes to her new role from Tufts University in Massachusetts, where she has served as provost for the past four years. She is slated become the University at Buffalo's first woman president on August 10.
