Two Women Who Have Been Appointed Deans

Lisa Clemens longtime medical professional with extensive ties to health education, has been named dean of the Dr. Earl D. and Melanie Brooks College of Health Professions at Trine University in Fort Wayne, Indiana. Clemens has worked for Parkview Health since 2010 as a physician assistant, director of provider professional development, and director of simulation education.

“Like everyone in Fort Wayne, I’ve been excited to see the progress on the new Brooks College of Health Professions facility, and I’m honored to lead Trine University’s efforts to equip and produce even more quality healthcare professionals who will make a positive impact on this region’s economy and quality of life as well as its physical health,” Dr. Clemens said.

Dr. Clemens earned a master’s degree in physician assistant studies at the University of Saint Francis in Fort Wayne. She earned a doctor of medical sciences degree with a concentration in education from A.T. Still University in Kirksville, Missouri.

Rebecca Sommer was appointed dean of the College of Professional Studies at the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point. She has been serving as interim dean and previously was assistant dean of the School of Health Sciences and Wellness since 2020. Earlier, she was head of the university’s School of Health Care Professions and associate dean in the college from 2017 to 2020.

“Having served as interim dean, I know first-hand that CPS faculty and staff are innovative, forward-thinking, and fully engaged with our students and community partners,” said Dr. Sommer. “We will continue working hard to provide transformative educational experiences and prepare the next generation of teachers, business professionals, and health and wellness practitioners. Ensuring a quality workforce is one of the most important factors in strengthening our regional economy.”

Dr. Sommer holds a bachelor’s degree and Ph.D. in pharmacology from the University of Wisconsin-Madison.
