In Memoriam: Carol Marion Wick, 1932-2021

Carol Wick, a long-time faculty member at the University of Wisconsin – Stevens Point, died on December 22 in Eau Claire, Wisconsin. She was 89 years old.

A native of Cambridge, Ohio, Professor Wick earned her bachelor’s degree at St. Mary’s College in Notre Dame, Indiana. She financed her higher education by working 35-hour weeks in the college’s dining facilities.

After graduating from St. Mary’s College, Professor Wick taught at Central Junior High and St. Mary’s Academy, both in South Bend, Indiana. Eight years later, she received a scholarship to allow her to continue her higher education. She earned a master’s degree and a Ph.D. in American history at Indiana University.

Dr. Wick joined the history department faculty at the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point in 1965. She was promoted to full professor in 1976. Professor Wick served as vice chancellor for academic affairs for four years and also was chair of the faculty and state secretary of the Association of University of Wisconsin Faculty.

Professor Wick retired in 1991.
