Four Women Who Have Been Appointed to Endowed Professorships

Patricia Bricker, professor of elementary and middle grades STEM education in the College of Education and Allied Professions at Western Carolina University in Cullowhee, North Carolina, was appointed the Jay M. Robinson Distinguished Professor in Educational Technologies at the university. She has been on the faculty for 23 years and has been serving as associate dean of the College of Education and Allied Professions.

Dr. Bricker is a graduate of Cornell University in Ithaca, New York. She holds two master’s degrees from the University of Rochester in New York and a doctorate in teacher education from the University of Tennessee.

Cynthia Reinhart-King will become the John W. Cox Chair of Bioengineering and chair of the bioengineering department at Rice University in Houston when she joins the university’s faculty on July 1, 2024. She currently serves as University Distinguished Professor, senior associate dean for research, the Cornelius Vanderbilt Professor of Biomedical Engineering, and professor of cell and developmental biology at Vanderbilt University. Dr. Reinhart-King is president of the Biomedical Engineering Society.

Professor Reinhart-King is a graduate of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, where she majored in chemical engineering and biology. She holds a Ph.D. in bioengineering from the University of Pennsylvania.

Sonia Sultan was named to the Alan M. Dachs Professorship of Science at Wesleyan University in Middletown, Connecticut. Her research focuses on the developmental interplay between genetic and environmental influences and the evolutionary implications of this complex interplay. Professor Sultan is the author of Organism and Environment: Ecological Development, Niche Construction, and Adaptation (Oxford University Press, 2015).

Professor Sultan is a graduate of Princeton University. She holds a master’s degree and a Ph.D. from Harvard University.

Margot Pollans has been appointed as James D. Hopkins Professor of Law at the Elisabeth Haub School of Law at Pace University in White Plains, New York. Before joining the Pace faculty in 2015, she was the inaugural academic fellow at UCLA School of Law’s Resnick Program for Food Law and Policy.

Professor Pollans is a graduate of Columbia University, where she majored in history, environmental science, and creative writing. She holds a master’s degree in law from the Georgetown University Law Center and a juris doctorate from New York University.
