Deborah D. Canter, professor of dietetics in the College of Human Ecology at Kansas State University, was selected by the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics to present the 2012 Lenna Frances Cooper Memorial Lecture at the 2012 Academy of Food and Nutrition Conference and Expo in Philadelphia this October.
Dr. Canter is a graduate of the University of Tennessee at Martin. She earned a master’s degree and a Ph.D. in food systems from the University of Tennessee at Knoxville.
M. Bernadine Dias, associate research professor at the Robotics Institute of Carnegie Mellon University in Pittsburgh, has been chosen to receive the 2012 Borg Early Career Award from the Committee on the Status of Women in Computing Research of the Computer Research Association.
Dr. Dias holds a master’s degree and a Ph.D. in robotics from Carnegie Mellon. She is a founding member of Women@SCS, a campus organization dedicated to supporting women’s professional opportunities in computing.
Andrea Deaton, associate vice president for research and executive director of the Office of Research Services at the University of Oklahoma, has been selected to receive the Mid-Career Award of Excellence from the Society of Research Administrators International. She will receive the award at the group’s annual meeting in October.
Deaton holds a master’s degree in human relations from the University of Oklahoma.
Mary Thompson, professor of physical therapy at the T. Boone Pickens Institute Health Science Center of Texas Woman’s University in Dallas, received the Joan Mills Award from the geriatrics section of the American Physical Therapy Association. She has been on the faculty at Texas Woman’s University since 1990.
Dr. Thompson is a graduate of the University of Kentucky. She holds a master’s degree in physical therapy from Texas Woman’s University and a doctorate in higher education from the University of North Texas.
Dr. Cautin, provost of Sacred Heart University in Connecticut, brings over two decades of higher education experience to her new role as president of Regis College in Weston, Massachusetts. She is slated to begin her presidency on July 1.
