Jennifer J. Young, the Pfeiffer-VIGRE Postdoctoral Instructor of Computational and Applied Mathematics at Rice University, was struck by a car and killed as she crossed a street near campus. Young, was 30 years old and was seven months pregnant. Doctors delivered the baby by C-section but the infant died a day later due to injuries suffered in the accident.
Dr. Young was a summa cum laude graduate of the University of Delaware. She earned a master’s degree and a Ph.D. in mathematics at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
