Four Women Who Have Been Appointed to Endowed Positions in Higher Education

Christina Maranci is the new Mashtots Professor of Armenian Studies at Harvard University. She is the first person of Armenian descent to hold the endowed chair. Since 2008, Dr. Maranci has taught at Tufts University. Professor Maranci is the author of four books including The Art of Armenia (Oxford University Press, 2018).

Dr. Maranci is a graduate of Vassar College in Poughkeepsie, New York. She holds a master’s degree and a Ph.D. from the department of art and archaeology at Princeton University in New Jersey.

Julie E. Bauman was appointed the Dr. Cyrus Katzen Family Director of the George Washington University Cancer Center in Washington, D.C. Dr. Bauman is associate dean of cancer and professor of medicine at the university’s School of Medicine and Health Sciences. Before joining the faculty this past March, she was a professor of medicine, chief of hematology/oncology, and medical director of oncology services at the University of Arizona College of Medicine-Tucson.

Dr. Bauman completed a dual MD/MPH degree at Tufts University School of Medicine in Boston. She completed an internal medicine residency at the University of Utah and a medical oncology fellowship at the University of Washington.

Lisa T. Alexander was named the Robert F. Drinan, S.J., Professor at the Boston College School of Law. She had been serving on the faculty at the Texas A&M University School of Law. Earlier, she was a professor at the University of Wisconsin Law School from 2006 to 2017. Professor Alexander has conducted extensive research in legal and extra-legal rights to property, housing, and urban space.

Professor Alexander received a bachelor’s degree from Wesleyan University in Middletown, Connecticut. She earned a juris doctorate from Columbia University School of Law.

Ashley Franklin was named the W.F. “Tex” and Pauline Curry Rankin Professor in Nursing at Texas Christian University. She has served on the faculty at the university since 2014. Dr. Franklin’s research focuses on students’ learning outcomes in simulation and what they can do to improve them.

Dr. Franklin holds a bachelor’s degree in nursing and a master’s degree in nursing education from Texas Christian University. She earned a Ph.D. in nursing at the Oregon Health and Science University.
