The department of internal medicine at Yale Medical School has announced the appointment of 11 faculty members to the rank of professor. Five of these promotions went to women.
Ursula Brewster specializes in nephrology. She joined the faculty at the medical school in 1998. She is the director of the Nephrology Fellowship program at the medical school. Dr. Brewster did her undergraduate work at Yale and then went to Dartmouth Medical School. Her internal medicine internship and residency were at Yale New Haven Hospital.
Sarwat Chaudry‘s work focuses on improving the care and outcomes of hospitalized patients, with a focus on older patients hospitalized for cardiovascular disease. Dr. Chaudhry serves as associate dean of student research and is co-director of the National Clinician Scholars Program at Yale. She is a graduate of Loyola University in Chicago, where she majored in biology. She earned her medical degree at the University of Chicago.
Lauren Cohn specializes in pulmonary care. Her research has focused on understanding the mysteries of asthma and in developing life-changing therapies to patients with severe asthma and other complex lung diseases. Dr. Cohn is a graduate of Smith College in Northampton, Massachusetts, where she majored in biology. She received her medical training at the University of Minnesota.
Neera Dahl has expertise in the diagnosis and management of inherited (or genetically based) kidney disease. She is the director of the Nephrology Clinical Trials program and is co-director of the Yale Kidney Stone Clinic. Dr. Dahl is a graduate of Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore. She holds a medical degree and a Ph.D. from Tufts University in Massachusetts.
Donna Windish specializes in general medicine. At Yale, she has developed the General Internal Medicine Medical Education Fellowship Program and the Advancement of Clinician-Educator Scholarship Faculty Development Program. Dr. Windish is a graduate of Cornell University in Ithaca, New York, where she majored in biology and chemistry. She holds a master pf public health degree from Johns Hopkins University and a medical degree from the University of Connecticut.
The new presidents are Laurie A. Boeding at the Technical College of the Lowcountry and Melissa Frank-Alston at Northeastern Technical College. Both women are expected to begin their presidencies on July 1.
Dr. McEwen comes to her new appointment following four years as president and vice chancellor of Victoria University in the University of Toronto. Earlier, she served in several leadership roles at the University of Toronto Mississauga. She received some of her education in the United States.
The new provosts are Barbara Rodriguez at the University of New Mexico, Bridget Chalk at Manhattan University in New York, and Jaci Lederman at Vincennes University in Indiana. All three women had been serving as their university's interim provost.
Dr. Howard joins Spelman from Ohio State University, where she has been serving as dean of the College of Engineering. She is a nationally recognized expert in robotics, artificial intelligence, and human-centered technology.
Dr. Gonko has led Henry Ford College in Dearborn, Michigan on an interim basis for the past year. She will assume the presidency of Macomb Community College on July 1.
