University of Wyoming Professor Andrea Burrows has been elected to serve as president of the Association for Science Teacher Education (ASTE). The organization is a leading voice in conversations about science teacher education research, policy, and practice. Dr. Burrows, who also is an associate dean in the College of Education, will work with current ASTE President Rommel Miranda, a professor at Towson University in Maryland, before assuming her presidency in January 2023.
Dr. Burrows will bring leadership experience from previous roles with the American Educational Research Association, the American Society for Engineering Education, and the Society for Information Technology and Teacher Education. She has been associated with ASTE for 14 years including serving as the leader of the professional development committee and the conference planning committee as well as being an associate editor of the Journal of Science Teacher Education.
“As the next ASTE president, I will shape and improve science teacher education with attention to diversity, equity and inclusion; by highlighting the importance of supporting educational researchers for science education; and by being a voice for this organization’s respected researchers through policy and practice,” Dr. Burrows said.
Professor Burrows joined the faculty at the University of Wyoming in 2011. She is a graduate of the University of Central Florida, where she majored in science education. Dr. Burrows holds a master’s degree in science education from Florida State University and a doctorate in curriculum and instruction with a science specialization from the University of Cincinnati.
