Three Universities Announce the Appointment of Women to Dean Positions

Anisa M. Zvonkovic, an academic leader with a distinguished record of promoting student success and impactful research and outreach, has been named dean of the University of Georgia College of Family and Consumer Sciences. Dr. Zvonkovic is currently the Harold H. Bate Distinguished Professor and dean of the College of Health and Human Performance at East Carolina University in Greenville, North Carolina. Earlier, she was head of the department of human development and family science at Virginia Tech from 2011 to 2018. Her appointment at the University of Georgia is effective July 1, 2022.

Dr. Zvonkovic received her bachelor’s degrees in psychology and religious studies from the University of Virginia. She earned a master’s degree and a Ph.D. in human development and family studies from Pennsylvania State University.

Catherine Staub has been named as the next dean of the Drake University School of Journalism and Mass Communication. Dr. Staub currently serves as associate professor and holds the Peggy Fisher and Larry Stelter Chair of Magazine Journalism at the university. She is also the director of the E.T. Meredith Center for Magazine Studies at the university.

Dr. Staub holds four degrees from Drake University — a bachelor’s degree in education and English, a master’s degree in journalism and mass communication, a specialist degree in education, and a doctorate in educational leadership.

Carolyn C. Meltzer was appointed dean of the Keck School of Medicine at the University of Southern California, effective March 1. She currently serves as the William P. Timmie Professor and chair of the department of radiology and imaging sciences at Emory University in Atlanta. An expert in neuroradiology and nuclear medicine, Dr. Meltzer has conducted research to understand the brain’s structure and function during normal aging, dementia, Alzheimer’s disease, and psychiatric disorders in later life.

Dr. Meltzer is a graduate of Cornell University in Ithaca, New York, where she majored in biology and neurobiology. She earned her medical degree at Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore.
