Lis Pankl was appointed dean of libraries at Mississippi State University in Starkville, effective January 1. Dr. Pankl comes to Mississippi State from Southern Illinois University Edwardsville, where she has served as professor and dean of Library and Information Services. She also has served as head of graduate and undergraduate services at the University of Utah and as head of academic engagement at Stony Brook University in New York.
Dr. Pankl is a graduate of Washington State University, where she majored in English. She holds master’s degrees in library and information science from the University of North Texas and Abilene Christian University, a master of public administration degree from the University of Utah, and a Ph.D. in geography from Kansas State University.
Arlene J. Montgomery is the new interim dean of the School of Nursing at Hampton University in Virginia. She has served as interim dean on three other occasions. Dr. Montgomery served in the United States Army Reserve Nurse Corps rising to the rank of colonel.
Dr. Montgomery is a graduate of Hampton University, where she received a bachelor’s degree in nursing in 1979. She earned a master’s degree in nursing with concentrations in education and administration from Hampton University in 1984. Later, she obtained a Ph.D. in urban studies with concentrations in education and health administration from Old Dominion University in Norfolk, Virginia.
Eileen Hogan is the new interim dean of the College of Business at New Mexico State University. She served as the interim dean of the W.A. Franke College of Business at Northern Arizona University from July 2019 to May 2020. From July 2017 to May 2018, Dr. Hogan served as the interim dean of the College of Business and Natural Sciences at Black Hills State University in Spearfish, South Dakota. Dr. Hogan served as professor of management for nearly 20 years at the College of Business at Kutztown University in Pennsylvania.
Dr. Hogan holds a bachelor’s degree, an MBA, and a Ph.D., all from the University of California, Berkeley.
Kimberly Moorehead has been named dean of the University College at Dillard University in New Orleans. The University College includes academic advising, the Academic Center for Excellence, the Center for First-Year Experience, the Daniel C. Thompson/Samuel DuBois Cook Honors Program, and the university’s writing center. Most recently, she served as senior student services coordinator at George Washington University.
A native of St. Croix, Dr. Moorehead earned a bachelor’s degree in mass communication from Dillard University in 2004. She holds a master’s degree in educational leadership from the University of Nevada-Las Vegas and a Ph.D. in higher education administration from George Washington University.
Although it was initially founded as school for women, the University of Montevallo has never had a woman president. Now the university has reached a historic milestone and selected selected Michelle R. Johnston to serve as its next president.
The women who are taking on new leadership roles with professional academic organizations are Yasmeen Shorish of James Madison University in Virginia, Elena Carbone of the University of Massachusetts Amherst, Shelley Lusetti of New Mexico State University, Oona Hathaway of Yale Law School, and Keisha Blain of Brown University.
Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory is a national program run by the University of California for the U.S. Department of Energy's Office of Science. Dr. Yelick, a computer scientist and longtime UC Berkeley faculty member, will become the laboratory's next director on July 1.
The selected candidate should have expertise and experience in theoretical models in labor and public economics as well as in microeconometrics and programming.
