Emily Carter was appointed professor of mechanical and aerospace engineering and the Andlinger Center for Energy and the Environment at Princeton University in New Jersey. She specializes in quantum and computational chemistry and materials science. She has been serving as executive vice chancellor and provost at the University of California, Los Angeles.
Professor Carter is a graduate of the University of California, Berkley. She earned a Ph.D. in chemistry at the California Institute of Technology.
Emily Tanner-Smith, Thomson Professor in the College of Education and associate professor in the department of counseling psychology and human services at the University of Oregon, has been given the added duties of executive director of the HEDCO Institute for Evidence-Based Educational Practice at the university. The new institute will assess the body of available research evidence on the most pressing issues in education and provide school leaders with guidance about the most effective policies, programs, and practices to enable the success and well-being of students.

Virginia Doellgast was promoted to full professor in the School of Industrial and Labor Relations at Cornell University in Ithaca, New York. Her research examines the relationship between the labor market and collective bargaining institutions, inequality, and job quality with a focus on European nations. Professor Doellgast is the author of Disintegrating Democracy at Work: Labor Unions and the Future of Good Jobs in the Service Economy (Cornell University Press, 2012).
Dr. Doellgast is a graduate of Bard College in Annandale-on-Hudson, New York, where she majored in community, regional, and environmental studies. She holds a master’s degree in housing, community, and economic development from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and a Ph.D. from the School of Industrial and Labor Relations at Cornell University.
