Five Women Who Will Be Assuming New Faculty Roles at Major Universities

Natalia Henao-Guerrero has been appointed head of the department of small animal clinical sciences in the Virginia-Maryland College of Veterinary Medicine at Virginia Tech. She has been interim head of the department since 2017. Prior to arriving at Virginia Tech, Dr. Henao-Guerrero completed a residency in anesthesiology at Kansas State University’s College of Veterinary Medicine.

Dr. Henao-Guerrero earned a doctorate of veterinary medicine from Universidad de La Salle in Colombia and a master’s degree in veterinary surgery from São Paulo State University in Brazil.

Kristin Lee was hired as an assistant professor of violin at the University of Cincinnati’s College-Conservatory of Music. Born in Seoul, South Korea, Lee began studying the violin at the age of five, and within one year won First Prize at the prestigious Korea Times Violin Competition.

Lee has performed on concert stages throughout the world. She holds a master’s degree from the Juilliard School in New York City.

Ranit Mishori, a professor of family medicine at Georgetown University Medical Center in Washington, D.C., was given the added duties as the inaugural chief public health officer for the university.

Dr. Mishori earned her medical degree at Georgetown University. She holds a master’s degree in international health from Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore and is working on a second master’s degree in international human rights law at the University of Oxford in England.

Felicia Griffin-Fennell has been appointed as the first full-time director of the Academic Fellows Program in the College of Social and Behavioral Sciences at the University of Massachusetts Amherst. This includes a faculty appointment in the department of sociology at the university. She has been serving as the founding director of the STEM Starter Academy in Springfield Technical Community College in Massachusetts.

Dr. Griffin-Fennell holds a master’s degree and a Ph.D. in clinical psychology from the University of Connecticut.

Kathleen Clark, associate professor of mathematics education in the College of Education at Florida State University, was appointed director of the School of Teacher Education at the university. Her teaching experience has taken her around the world as a visiting professor at the University of Siegen in Germany, and a visiting academic researcher at the University of Canterbury in Christchurch, New Zealand.

Dr. Clark earned a bachelor’s degree in mathematics and a master’s degree in mathematics education from the University of West Florida. She holds a Ph.D. in mathematics curriculum and instruction from the University of Maryland, College Park.
