Marietta Vázquez, professor of pediatrics (general pediatrics and infectious diseases) and founder and director of the Yale Children’s Hispanic Clinic, has been appointed associate dean for student diversity at the Yale School of Medicine, effective May 3, 2021. Her research is focused on the clinical epidemiology of infectious diseases in children focusing on the efficacy of vaccines.
Dr. Vázquez is a graduate of Yale University and earned her medical degree at the University of Puerto Rico.
Damita Davis will be the new chief diversity officer at the College of Brockport of the State University of New York System, effective July 1. She was the associate director of programming and educational initiatives in the Office for Institutional Diversity at Boston College.
Davis holds a bachelor’s degree and a master’s degree in human development and family studies from the University of Rhode Island. She is a doctoral candidate in higher education at the University of Massachusetts Boston.
Lorna Hernandez Jarvis will be the inaugural vice president for institutional equity and diversity at the University of Puget Sound in Tacoma, Washington, effective July 1. She has been serving as chief diversity officer and associate vice president for diversity, equity, and inclusion at Whitworth University in Spokane, Washington. Earlier in her career, she served on the faculty of Hope College in Michigan.
Dr. Hernandez Jarvis holds a bachelor’s degree in psychology from the University of Akron in Ohio. She earned a master’s degree and a Ph.D. in cognitive psychology from Kent State University in Ohio.
Sarah Walker, an associate professor of management in the Heider College of Business at Creighton University in Omaha, Nebraska, is taking on new duties as interim vice provost for institutional diversity and inclusion. Prior to joining Creighton University in 2018, Dr. Walker served for 10 years on the faculty of the Marilyn Davies College of Business at the University of Houston – Downtown. Dr. Walker’s research interests include examining the experiences of marginalized individuals at work with a specific focus on individual and organizational-level strategies for creating more equitable workplaces.
Dr. Walker holds a Ph.D. in industrial and organizational psychology from Rice University in Houston, Texas.
Since 2021, Dr. Raver has been serving as provost and vice chancellor for academic affairs at Vanderbilt University in Nashville. She will begin her new duties at the University of Michigan on December 1.
