Brandeis University in Massachusetts Appoints Carol Fierke as Provost

Carol A. Fierke was named provost and executive vice president at Brandeis University in Waltham, Massachusetts. She will begin her new job on January 1.

Since 2017, Dr. Fierke has been provost and executive vice president at Texas A&M University. She also holds professorships in chemistry and biochemistry and has been conducting research on COVID-19.

Prior to arriving at Texas A&M, Dr. Fierke spent much of her career at the University of Michigan, where she began as a biological chemistry and chemistry professor, and served in several leadership roles, including chair of the chemistry department and vice provost and dean of the Rackham Graduate School.

Dr. Fierke is a graduate of Carleton College in Northfield, Minnesota, where she majored in chemistry. She earned a Ph.D. in biochemistry from Brandeis University.

“As a doctoral student at Brandeis, I received a strong foundation in the spirit of inquiry and learned the value of cross-disciplinary research and teaching,” Dr. Fierke said. “I also became grounded in Brandeis’ founding values of academic excellence, openness and commitment to repairing the world. The opportunity to return to the university where I got my start as a scholar is incredibly exciting. I look forward to supporting the university, my fellow faculty members, and our students in Brandeis’ continued pursuit of excellence.”
