Susan Ballabina was recently selected as the new president of Texas A&M University. Now Dr. Ballabina has announced the appointment of several women to posts within the Office of the President.
Holly Shive was appointed chief of staff. She most recently served as chief presidential communications officer in the President’s Office. Over the last 15 years, Shive has held leadership roles across the Texas A&M System including the Health Science Center, Texas A&M AgriLife, and the Division of Marketing and Communications.
Kala McCain, who previously served as assistant vice president for enterprise communications and governance within the Division of Marketing and Communications, will be the new chief of presidential communications. McCain earned a bachelor’s degree in agricultural leadership and development and a master’s degree in agricultural leadership, education, and communications from Texas A&M University.
Carla Vogel was named chief legal affairs officer. Also, she will remain a TAMU System employee in the Office of General Counsel, where she works in the Litigation and Dispute Resolution group. Before joining the legal staff at the university in 2022, she was in private practice primarily focused on corporate transactions, education, and employment issues. Vogel earned her law degree from St. Mary’s University in San Antonio.
Although it was initially founded as school for women, the University of Montevallo has never had a woman president. Now the university has reached a historic milestone and selected selected Michelle R. Johnston to serve as its next president.
The women who are taking on new leadership roles with professional academic organizations are Yasmeen Shorish of James Madison University in Virginia, Elena Carbone of the University of Massachusetts Amherst, Shelley Lusetti of New Mexico State University, Oona Hathaway of Yale Law School, and Keisha Blain of Brown University.
Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory is a national program run by the University of California for the U.S. Department of Energy's Office of Science. Dr. Yelick, a computer scientist and longtime UC Berkeley faculty member, will become the laboratory's next director on July 1.
The selected candidate should have expertise and experience in theoretical models in labor and public economics as well as in microeconometrics and programming.
