In Memoriam: Nadine Taub, 1943-2020

Nadine Taub, a pioneer in women’s rights law and professor emerita at the Rutgers Univerity School of Law in Newark died recently at her home in New York City. She was 77 years old and had suffered from an autoimmune disease.

Taub was a native of Princeton, New Jersey, the daughter of a Princeton University professor of mathematics. She earned a bachelor’s degree at Swarthmore College in Pennsylvania and went on to graduate from Yale Law School. After law school, Taub provided legal aid in a low-income area of the Bronx and then as an attorney for the American Civil Liberties Union.

Taub joined the faculty at Rutgers in 1973. There she founded the Women’s Rights Litigation Clinic, the first of its kind in the nation, according to the university. while teaching, she also pursued cases on sexual discrimination, sexual assault, abortion rights, and domestic abuse.

Professor Taub was the author or co-author of several books including Sex Discrimination and The Law: History, Practice and Theory (Aspen Pubulishers, 1995). She retired in 2000.
