Three Women Who Have Been Appointed to Endowed Professorships at Major Universities

Idit Shner, a professor of saxophone at the University of Oregon, was named to the Phillip H. Knight Chair. She joined the faculty at the University of Oregon in 2007.

Professor Shner was born in Israel and immigrated to the U.S. in 1997 after military service. She earned a doctor of musical arts degree from the University of North Texas.

Karen Donelan was appointed to the Stuart H. Altman Chair in U.S. Health Policy at Brandeis University in Waltham, Massachusetts. She has been serving as a senior scientist and associate professor of medicine at the Mongan Institute’s Health Policy Research Center at Massachusetts General Hospital and Harvard Medical School.

Dr. Donelan holds a bachelor’s degree in English and American literature, a master’s degree in education and a doctorate in health policy and management, all from Harvard University.

Constance Harsh, a professor and chair of the English department at Colgate University in Hamilton, New York, was appointed to the Rebecca Chopp Chair in the Humanities, which honors the university’s 15th president. An expert on Victorian fiction, Professor Harsh joined the Colgate faculty in 1988.

Professor Harsh holds bachelor’s, master’s, and doctoral degrees, all from the University of Pennsylvania.
