Lisa Berreau, professor of chemistry at Utah State University, was appointed vice president for research at the university. She has been serving as interim vice president for research since July 2019, and was associate vice president for research since July 2018.
Dr. Berreau joined the faculty at Utah State in 1998. She is a graduate of Mankato State University in Minnesota and holds a Ph.D. in inorganic chemistry from Iowa State University.
Miriam Merrill was named professor and chair of the department of physical education at Pomona College and director of athletics for Pomona and Pitzer Colleges in Claremont, California. She has been serving as the associate director of athletics at Hamilton College in Clinton, New York.
Dr. Merrill is a graduate of the University of Cincinnati, where she was an All-American in track. She holds a Ph.D. in the psychology of human movement from Temple University in Philadelphia.
Carol Greider was appointed a distinguished professor of molecular, cell, and developmental biology at the University of California, Santa Cruz. She has been serving as a Bloomberg Distinguished Professor, the Daniel Nathans Professor, and department director for molecular biology and genetics at Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine in Baltimore. Professor Greider shared the Nobel Prize in physiology or medicine in 2009.
Professor Greider earned a bachelor’s degree in biology from the College of Creative Studies at the University of California, Santa Barbara. She holds a Ph.D. in molecular biology from the University of California, Berkeley.
Abigail Snyder is a new assistant professor in the department of food science in the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences at Cornell University in Ithaca New York. Her research is focused on microbial food safety and spoilage.
Dr. Snyder is a graduate of Ohio State University, where she majored in food science and chemistry. She holds a Ph.D. in food science from Cornell University.
Titichia M. Jackson was named an assistant professor of lawyering skills and director of academic success and bar passage at Penn State Dickinson Law School in Carlisle, Pennsylvania. She was director of bar preparation and support for the North Carolina Central University School of Law.
Jackson is a graduate of Fayetteville State University in North Carolina. She earned a juris doctorate at North Carolina Central University.
Cathy Hwang, an expert in business law, will join the University of Virginia School of Law faculty in the fall. Since 2016, Hwang has served as an associate law professor at the University of Utah. Before entering the academic world, Hwang was an associate for Skadden, Arps, Slate, Meagher & Flom in New York City.
Hwang is a graduate of Pomona College in Claremont, California, where she majored in economics and international relations. She earned her law degree at the University of Chicago.
Nova Thomas has been appointed a professor of voice at the Shepherd School of Music of Rice University in Houston, Texas. Thomas previously served as an associate professor of voice and opera studies at Westminster Choir College of Rider University in New Jersey.
Originally from North Carolina, Thomas earned a bachelor’s degree at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and a master’s degree in music at Indiana University.
Elisabeth Hamin, professor of regional planning at the University of Massachusetts Amherst, has been appointed as the co-chair of the Association of Collegiate Schools of Planning Task Force on Climate Action. She joined the faculty at the university in 2001 after teaching at Iowa State University.
Dr. Hamin is a graduate of Cleveland State University, where she majored in business administration. She holds a master’s degree in finance from Northwestern University in Evanston, Illinois, and a Ph.D. in city and regional planning from the Univerity of Pennsylvania.
