Three Women in Academia Appointed to Positions as Deans

Tricia Gatlin will be the next dean of its Wegmans School of Nursing at St. John Fisher College in Rochester, New York. Currently, Dr. Gatlin as associate professor/associate dean for undergraduate affairs and interim associate dean for graduate affairs at the School of Nursing at the University of Nevada Las Vegas. She will begin her new job on July 1.

Dr. Gatlin earned a Ph.D. in nursing at the University of Arizona.

Bettye Grable has been named the acting dean of the School of Journalism & Graphic Communication at Florida A&M University. Dr. Grable has been a professor of public relations at the school since 2006. She also served two terms as president of the Faculty Senate. Earlier in her career, Professor Grable taught at Boston University.

Grable earned her undergraduate degree at the University of Florida. She holds a master’s degree from Florida A&M University and earned a doctorate in public affairs and mass communication from Louisiana State University.

Joy K. Ward will be the next dean of the College of Arts and Sciences at Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland. She will take office on July 1. Currently, Dr. Ward is an associate dean for research and dean’s professor at the University of Kansas. Her research is focused on how plants adapt to changing environments.

Professor Ward is a graduate of Pennsylvania State University, where she majored in biology. She earned a Ph.D. at Duke University in Durham, North Carolina.
