Five Women Appointed to Provost Positions at Colleges and Universities

Peggy Agouris has been named provost at the College of William and Mary in Williamsburg, Virginia. She currently serves as dean of the College of Science and as director of the Center for Earth Observing and Space Research at George Mason University in Fairfax, Virginia. Dr. Agouris has been a professor of remote sensing and spatial informatics at the university since 2007. She served as chair of department of geography and geoinformation science from 2008 to 2013.

Dr. Agouris is a graduate of the National Technical University in Athens, Greece, where she majored in engineering. She holds a master’s degree and Ph.D. both from Ohio State University.

Maryanne Reed has been named provost at West Virginia University. She currently serves as dean of Reed College of Media at the university, a position she has held since 2004. She first joined the faculty in 1993 after a career as a broadcast reporter and producer. Under her leadership, the Reed College of Media has become a national leader in educating the next generation of digital journalists, schooled in using the latest in technology to report the news. The college has also broadened its public relations and general communications programs, and experienced record enrollment in its graduate and undergraduate programs.

Professor Reed is a graduate of the University of Massachusetts where she majored in history. She holds a master’s degree in journalism from Northwestern University.

Danielle Wilken has been named provost and dean of faculty at Goodwin College in Hartford, Connecticut. She has been a member of the Goodwin community since 2001, most recently serving as assistant vice president for academic affairs. In her new role, she will oversee Goodwin’s five academic departments. She is also responsible for ensuring compliance with regional and programmatic accreditors.

Dr. Wilken holds bachelor’s degrees in clinical laboratory science and biology and a master’s degree in health care policy and management both from Stony Brook University in New York. She earned a doctorate in education leadership from the University of Hartford.

Patrica Prelock was named interim provost and senior vice president at the University of Vermont. She has been serving as dean of the College of Nursing and Health Sciences at the university. Dr. Prelock is a professor of communication sciences and disorders.

Dr. Prelock holds bachelor’s and master’s degrees in speech language pathology from Kent State University in Ohio. She earned a Ph.D. in speech language pathology with a concentration in cognitive psychology from the University of Pittsburgh.

Lesia L. Crumpton-Young was appointed provost and senior vice president for academic affairs at Morgan State University in Baltimore. She has been serving as vice president for research and institutional advancement and chief research officer at Tennessee State University.

Dr. Crumpton Young holds a bachelor’s degree, a master’s degree, and a Ph.D., all in industrial engineering from Texas A&M University. She was the first-African American women to earn a Ph.D. in engineering at Texas A&M University. Dr. Crumpton-Young is currently studying for an MBA at Tennessee State University.
