Four Women Who Have Been Appointed to Positions as Deans

Tameka Angela Harper has been named dean of students at Tuskegee University in Alabama. She was vice president for student affairs and enrollment management and dean of students at Arkansas Baptist College.

Harper holds a bachelor’s degree in speech communication with an emphasis in political communications from Georgia State University and a master’s degree in public administration from the University of the District of Columbia. She is currently pursuing a doctorate in political science from Clark Atlanta University.

Rachel Schreiber has been named executive dean of the Parsons School of Design in New York. She was provost and senior vice president at the San Francisco Art Institute.

Dr. Schreiber holds a bachelor of fine arts degree in graphic design from the Rhode Island School of Design, a master of fine arts degree in photography and critical writing from the California Institute of the Arts, and a master’s degree and Ph.D. both in U.S. gender history, visual culture, print culture, and gender and urbanism from Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore.

Enku Gelaye has been named vice president and dean of campus life at Emory University in Atlanta, effective in August 2019. She currently serves as vice chancellor of student affairs and campus life at the University of Massachusetts at Amherst.

Gelaye holds a bachelor’s degree in print journalism from the University of Tennessee and a law degree from the University of Georgia.

Valerie Ashby has been reappointed to another five-year term as dean of the Trinity College of Arts & Sciences at Duke University. She has served as dean since 2015.

Dr. Ashby holds a bachelor’s degree and Ph.D. in chemistry from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
