Fourteen Women Appointed to Administrative Posts in Higher Education

LSC_Harvey-SmithAlicia B. Harvey-Smith was named executive vice chancellor at the Lone Star College System in Houston, Texas. Since 2013, she has served as president of River Valley Community College in Claremont, New Hampshire. Earlier, Dr. Harvey-Smith was vice president for student affairs at Baltimore City Community College in Maryland.

Dr. Harvey-Smith is a graduate of Morgan State University in Baltimore. She holds a master’s degree in education from Johns Hopkins University and a doctorate in counseling and personnel services from the University of Maryland-College Park.

darci_heroyDarci Heroy was appointed associate vice president and Title IX coordinator at the University of Oregon. She has been serving in the post on an interim basis for the past seven months. Earlier, she was an equal opportunity specialist for the university’s Office of Affirmative Action and Equal Opportunity.

Heroy earned a law degree at the University of Oregon and a master’s degree in international policy analysis from the Monterey Institute in California.

smith-simmonsMargie Smith-Simmons has been appointed interim assistant vice president for strategic communications and university spokesperson at Indiana University in Bloomington. She has been serving as director of strategic communications for Indiana University-Purdue University Indianapolis.

Smith-Simmons holds a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice from Indiana University.

lottyMonica Taylor Lotty will be the next executive vice president and chief development officer for the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia, which is affiliated with the University of Pennsylvania. She has been serving as vice president for development and alumni relations at the University of Delaware. She is the former executive director of external affairs at The Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania.

Lotty is a graduate of Georgetown University in Washington, D.C. She earned a law degree at Temple University in Philadelphia.

Luisa-Del-RosalLuisa Del Rosal was appointed director of the Tower Center for Political Studies and the founding executive director of the new Mission Foods Texas-Mexico Center at Southern Methodist University in Dallas, Texas. She has been serving as the director of strategy and international affairs of the Latino Leadership Initiative at the university’s Cox School of Business.

Del Rosal holds bachelor’s degrees in political science and sociology and a master’s degree in higher education policy and leadership from Southern Methodist University.

tomlinsonJanis A. Tomlinson was named director of special collections and museums at the University of Delaware. She joined the staff at the university in 2003 as director of university museums. Earlier in her career, Dr. Tomlinson was the Robert Sterling Clark Professor at Williams College in Massachusetts and served as director of exhibitions and cultural programs at the National Academy of Sciences.

Dr. Tomlinson holds master’s and doctoral degrees from the University of Pennsylvania.

Waltrina_MiddletonWaltrina N. Middleton is the new associate dean of the Andrew Rankin Memorial Chapel at Howard University in Washington, D.C. She was the national minister for youth advocacy and leadership formation for the United Church of Christ.

Rev. Middleton is a graduate of Howard University. She earned a master’s degree at DePaul University in Chicago and a master of divinity degree from the Chicago Theological Seminary.

karen-bullKaren Zannini Bull was appointed interim associate dean of academic affairs and online programs at University College of Syracuse University in New York. For the past 30 months, she has been serving as manager of online programs at University College. Earlier, Dr. Bull was director of program evaluation at Onondaga Community College.

Dr. Bull earned a doctorate in instructional design, development, and evaluation from Syracuse University.

JuliaWickerLeeJulia Wicker Lee was named associate general counsel at the University of North Carolina at Wilmington. She was a partner at the Parker, Poe, Adams & Bernstein law firm in Raleigh.

Lee is a magna cum laude graduate of Wake Forest University in Winston-Salem, North Carolina, where she majored in communication. She earned a juris doctorate at the Wake Forest University School of Law.

spearKimberly Spears-McNatt was appointed deputy chief of the Police Division at Ohio State University. She has been a member of the police division since 1994.

Spears-McNatt is a graduate of Ohio State University, where she majored in criminal justice. She holds a master’s degree from Franklin University in Columbus, Ohio.

washburnElizabeth Rodke Washburn was named interim chief compliance officer at the University of New Mexico. She was the chief of staff to the deputy secretary of the U.S. Department of the Interior in Washington, D.C.

Washburn is a graduate of the University of Oklahoma, where she majored in journalism and communication. She holds a master’s degree in government from Texas Woman’s University in Denton, and a juris doctorate from the University of New Mexico School of Law.

talieferoCrystal Taliefero was hired as the director of the Indiana University Soul Review. The Soul Revue is one of three arts ensembles of the African American Arts Institute at the university. It was founded in 1972.

Taliefero has been a long-time member of the Billy Joel Band. She is a graduate of Indiana University.

shoemakerKelli D. Shoemaker will be the next vice president for business and finance and chief financial officer at Auburn University in Alabama. She will take office on September 13. For the past four years, Shoemaker has been senior vice president for finance and administration and chief financial officer for Blinn College, a four-campus community college system headquartered in Brenham, Texas.

A certified public accountant, Shoemaker is a graduate of the Maya Business School at Texas A&M University.

Tamia_Herndon_resizedTamia Herndon is the new director of online education at Alcorn State University in Mississippi. She was a campus dean at Strayer University.

Dr. Herndon is a graduate of Tougaloo College in Mississippi. She earned a master’s degree in criminal justice at Mississippi College, an MBA at Strayer University, and a doctorate in higher education from Jackson State University in Mississippi.
