Dr. Buckner-Brown brings over two decades of experience in higher education and public health to her new role. She has recently served as Alcorn's interim provost and associate provost for undergraduate education and success.

The Dr. Mary Smith Anti-Oppression Award from the American Counseling Association recognizes counselors and counselor educators who challenge oppression within the counseling field and their local communities.

Dr. Wallace's appointment makes her the first alumna and employee of a historically Black college or university to serve as the association's president. She is an alumna of both Alcorn State University and Jackson State University, where she currently teaches in the College of Education.

The faculty appointments are Bhramar Mukherjee at Yale University, Stephanie Henderson at Alcorn State University, and Lorraine Gaynor at the University of Iowa.

Dr. Gloria Jackson had a career in higher education that spanned five decades. From 1982 to 1984, she served as president of St. Philip's College in Texas, a historically Black community college within the Alamo Colleges District.

Dr. Bolden’s teaching and professional career began at Utica Junior College in Utica, Missississippi. She and her husband moved to Alcorn State University in 1957. During a 42-year career at Alcorn State, Dr. Bolden served in many capacities including concert choir director, music professor, honors colloquium professor, and chair of the department of fine arts.

The five women appointed to dean positions are Azita Emani at the Yale School of Nursing, Mary W. Stewart at Mississippi State University-Meridian, Mary Werner at Madisonville Community College in Kentucky, Natasha Hutson at Alcorn State University in Mississippi, and Leah Cohn at the College of Veterinary Medicine at the University of Missouri.
