Ten Women Faculty Members Taking on New Assignments

lindquistStefanie A. Lindquist was named professor of law and political science at Arizona State University. She will also serve as deputy provost and vice president for academic affairs. Dr. Lindquist was the dean of the School of Public and International Affairs at the University of Georgia. Earlier, she was the Charles Alan Wright Chair in Federal Courts at the University of Texas School of Law.

Professor Lindquist is a graduate of Ursinus College in Collegeville, Pennsylvania. She holds a law degree from Temple University and a Ph.D. in political science from the University of South Carolina.

luther_pic_2Catherine Luther was named director of the School of Journalism and Electronic Media at the University of Tennessee in Knoxville. She is the author of Press Images, National Identity, and Foreign Policy (Routledge, 2002) and co-author of Diversity in U.S. Mass Media (Wiley-Blackwell, 2012).

Dr. Luther holds a master’s degree in media communications from the University of Maryland and a Ph.D. in mass communication from the University of Minnesota.

UCFDeansNorma Conner, an associate professor in the College of Nursing at the University of Central Florida in Orlando, has been given the added duties of associate dean for academic excellence at the College of Nursing. Dr. Conner joined the faculty at the University of Central Florida in 2010.

Dr. Conner is a graduate of Towson University in Maryland. She holds master’s and doctoral degrees in nursing from Rutgers University in New Jersey.

Kristen-van-de-biezenbosKristen van de Biezenbos was appointed associate professor at the University of Oklahoma College of Law. An expert on energy law, Professor van de Biezenbos has been serving on the faculty of the Texas Tech University School of Law.

Professor van de Biezenbos is a graduate of the University of Tennessee, where she majored in English. She holds a master of fine arts degree in fiction writing from the University of New Orleans and a law degree from Tulane University in New Orleans.

evelyn_fundaEvelyn Funda, a professor of English at Utah State University, has been given the added duties as associate dean of graduate studies in the College of Humanities and Social Sciences. She will also direct the Mountain West Center for Regional Studies.

Dr. Funda holds bachelor’s and master’s degrees from Boise State University in Idaho. She earned a Ph.D. at the University of Nebraska.

scalesT. Laine Scales, professor of higher education at Baylor University in Waco, Texas, has been awarded the title of Master Teacher, the highest faculty position at the university. Professor Scales has been on the Baylor faculty since 1999.

Dr. Scales is a graduate of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, where she majored in English and psychology. She earned a master of social work degree from the Southern Baptist Theological Seminary in Louisville, Kentucky, and a Ph.D. in higher education from the University of Kentucky.

suzanne-waddell-phdSuzanne McKee-Waddell, a professor of curriculum, instruction, and special education at the University of Southern Mississippi, was named interim director of the Frances A. Karnes Center for Gifted Studies at the university.

Dr. McKee-Waddell is a graduate of the University of Mississippi. She earned a master’s degree at William Carey University in Hattiesburg, Mississippi, and a Ph.D. in instructional technology from Mississippi State University.

kostylevaElena Kostyleva was hired to a faculty position in the department of biology at Alcorn State University in Mississippi. Since 2009, she has been a senior staff writer at Alcorn State.

A native of Russia, Kostyleva earned an MBA at Alcorn State University.

CatherineCorson_HighlightCatherine Corson, an associate professor of environmental studies at Mount Holyoke College in South Hadley, Massachusetts, has been given the additional duties of director of the Miller Worley Center for the Environment at the College. Dr. Corson has taught at Mount Holyoke since 2010.

Dr. Corson is a graduate of Cornell University in Ithaca, New York, where she majored in biology and society. She holds a master’s degree in environmental and resource economics from University College London, a master of public administration degree from Cornell University, and a Ph.D. in environmental science policy, and management from the University of California, Berkeley.

BondJohannaJohanna Bond, a professor of law at Washington and Lee University in Lexington, Virginia, was appointed associate dean for academic affairs at the law school. She is the editor of the book Voices of African Women: Women’s Rights in Ghana, Uganda, and Tanzania (Carolina Academic Press, 2005).

Professor Bond is a graduate of Colorado College. She holds law degrees from the University of Minnesota and the Georgetown University Law Center.
