Nine Women Appointed to Administrative Posts at Colleges and Universities

Carina OlaruCarina Olaru was named director of the Latino Cultural Center at Purdue University in West Lafayette, Indiana. She has been serving as an assistant professor of Spanish and Portuguese at Monmouth College in Illinois.

Dr. Olaru is a graduate of DePaul University in Chicago, where she majored in English and Latin American studies. She holds a master’s degree in Hispanic literatures at the University of Illinois.

Elena-FoulisElena Foulis was appointed director of the Flora Stone Mather Center for Women at Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland, Ohio. For the past eight years, Dr. Foulis has been a senior lecturer in Spanish at Ohio State University.

Dr. Foulis is a graduate of Ohio State University. She holds a master’s degree in Spanish and a Ph.D. in comparative literature and cultural studies from the University of Arkansas.

NelsonJanet Nelson will be the next vice president for research and economic development at the University of Idaho. Dr. Nelson will begin her new job on September 1. She has been serving as associate vice chancellor for research development at the University of Tennessee.

Before joining the administration at the University of Tennessee in 2014, Dr. Nelson was director of business development for the URS Corporation. Dr. Nelson holds a Ph.D. in chemistry from the California Institute of Technology.

alicemaddnAlice Madden was named executive director of the Getches-Wilkinson Center for Natural Resources, Energy, and the Environment at University of Colorado Law School. She has been a senior fellow at the center since February. Earlier, Madden was deputy assistant secretary for intergovernmental and external affairs at the Office of Congressional and Intergovernmental Affairs in Washington.

Madden holds bachelor’s and law degrees from the University of Colorado.

MartinBrint M. Martin was promoted to director of alumni affairs at Hampton University in Virginia. She has served as assistant director of alumni affairs and director of athletic marketing at the university.

Martin holds a bachelor’s degree in marketing and a master’s degree in business administration from Hampton University.

gorskiKathleen Gorski was appointed assistant dean for outcomes assessment at Waubonsee Community College in Sugar Grove, Illinois. She was director of assessment for National Louis University in Chicago.

Dr. Gorski is a graduate of Valparaiso University in Indiana. She holds a master’s degree in education organization and leadership from the University of Illinois and an educational doctorate from Argosy University.

davidsonKatie M. Davidson is the new director of international programs at the University of North Dakota. She was the coordinator of international study programs at the College of Veterinary Medicine at Iowa State University.

Dr. Davidson holds a bachelor’s degree in philosophy, an MBA, and a doctorate in higher education administration, all from Iowa State University.

cindy-leavitCindy Leavitt was named vice president for computer services and chief information officer at Temple University in Philadelphia. For the past five years, she was the deputy chief information officer for the medical school at the University of Michigan.

Leavitt is a graduate of Brigham Young University in Provo, Utah, where she majored in business and statistics. She holds an MBA from the University of Michigan.

Caples-WelcomeGwendolyn Caples is the new assistant vice president for institutional advancement at Jackson State University in Mississippi. She has served as director of the Welcome Center and director of alumni and community relations at the university.

Caples is a graduate of Jackson State University, where she majored in political science. She earned a master’s degree at Mississippi College.
