Susan Bernofsky, an associate professor and director of the program in literary translation in the master of fine arts writing program at Columbia University in New York City, is the recipient of the Schelegel-Tieck Prize from the Society of Authors in London, England. The prize is given annually to English-language translations of German texts.
Professor Bernofsky is being honored for her translation of Jenny Erpenbeck’s The End of Days (New Directions, 2014).
Susan J. Baserga, professor of molecular biophysics and professor of biochemistry, genetics, and therapeutic radiology at Yale University, is the recipient of the William C. Rose Award from the American Society for Biochemistry and Molecular Biology. She will be honored and give a lecture at the society’s annual conference in San Diego on April 5.
Dr. Baserga holds a bachelor’s degree, a master’s degree, a medical degree, and a Ph.D. in genetics, all from Yale University.
Cynthia B. Meyers, an associate professor of communication at the College of Mount Saint Vincent in Riverdale, New York, was named the recipient of the 2016 Broadcast Historian Award from the Library of American Broadcasting Foundation. She will be honored at the foundation’s annual convention in Las Vegas on April 18 for her book A Word From Our Sponsor: Admen, Advertising, and the Golden Age of Radio (Fordham University Press, 2013).
Dr. Meyers is a graduate of Ohio University in Athens. She holds a master’s degree in communication from Hunter College of the City University of New York and a Ph.D. from the University of Texas at Austin.
Alice Wong, a staff research associate at the Institute for Health and Aging in the School of Nursing at the University of California, San Francisco, was selected to receive the Paul G. Hearne Leadership Award from the American Association of People With Disabilities. She is being honored for her work in creating the Disability Visibility Project, an online archive documenting the stories of people with disabilities.
Wong holds a master’s degree in sociology from the University of California, San Francisco.
Emilie LeBel, an assistant professor of composition at the University of Montana School of Music, is the first woman to win the Land’s End Ensemble’s Composer Competition. The competition was held at the University of Calgary, earlier this month.
Dr. LeBel earned a doctorate in music at the University of Toronto in 2013.
