New Administrative Assignments for 10 Women in Higher Education

harrisonValerie I. Harrison was named the senior adviser to the president for compliance at Temple University in Philadelphia. She has been serving as senior associate general counsel at the university. Before joining the staff at Temple University, Dr. Harrison served as general counsel and acting president of The Lincoln University in Pennsylvania.

Dr. Harrison is a graduate of the University of Virginia, where she majored in economics. She earned a law degree at Villanova University in Pennsylvania and holds a master’s degree in liberal studies and a Ph.D. in African American studies from Temple University.

TedeschiMartha Tedeschi was appointed director of the Harvard Art Museums, effective this July. She currently serves as deputy director for art and research at the Art Institute of Chicago. She is the former president of the Print Council of America.

Dr. Tedeschi is a graduate of Brown University in Providence, Rhode Island. She earned a Ph.D. in art history from Northwestern University in Evanston, Illinois.

DeCinti_AlisonAlison DeCinti was named assistant vice chancellor for advancement at the University of North Carolina at Pembroke. She was the interim assistant vice chancellor for development and has been on the university’s staff for nine years.

DeCinti is a graduate of Newberry College in South Carolina, where she majored in communications.

HarperBettyJBetty J. Harper is the new associate vice provost for planning and institutional research at Pennsylvania State University. She has been serving in the position on an interim basis.

Dr. Harper holds a bachelor’s degree in natural resource conservation and a master’s degree in wildlife ecology and conservation from the University of Florida. She earned a doctorate in higher education at Penn State.

FOREMANMargo Foreman was appointed director of equal opportunity at Iowa State University, effective April 25. She has been serving as associate director of the Office of Equal Opportunity at Indiana University-Purdue University Indianapolis. She has been on the staff there for 17 years.

Foreman holds a bachelor’s degree in general studies and a master of public health degree from Indiana University-Purdue University Indianapolis.

CROWEAdell Crowe was named director of student media at West Virginia University, where she will oversee the operation of the student newspaper and student-run radio station. She has been serving as assistant director of student media at American University in Washington, D.C.

Before beginning her career in the academic world, Crowe was a journalist with Gannett News Service, The Tennessean, and USA Today. She is a graduate of the University of Missouri and holds a master’s degree from George Washington University.

McNeil-WashiAdrienne J. McNeil-Washington is the new assistant vice president of community relations at Lehigh University in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania. She was the vice president and chief operating officer for the United Way of Lancaster County in Pennsylvania.

McNeil-Washington is a graduate of York College in Pennsylvania. She holds a master’s degree in human resource development from Villanova University in suburban Philadelphia and is studying for a doctorate in higher education administration through the University of Phoenix.

capolupoCatherine C. Capolupo was appointed vice president for enrollment management at Stonehill College in Easton, Massachusetts. Since 2013, she has been a vice president at Roger Williams University in Bristol, Rhode Island. Previously, Capolupo was assistant vice president of undergraduate admission and marketing at Simmons College in Boston.

Capolupo is a graduate of Stonehill College, where she majored in sociology. She earned a second bachelor’s degree in art and a master’s degree in educational leadership at Simmons College.

Elaine Papas VarasElaine Papas Varas was named director of financial aid at the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia. She has been serving as senior executive director of student financial aid at Drexel University in Philadelphia.

Varas is a graduate of Wheaton College, where she majored in psychology. She has done graduate coursework at Rutgers University in New Jersey and Columbia University in New York City.

barkerYvette Barker is the new director of housing at Texas Southern University in Houston. She was general manager of American Campus Communities at Prairie View A&M University in Texas.

Barker is a graduate of Talladega College in Alabama, where she majored in public administration. She holds a master’s degree in education from Langston University in Oklahoma.
