Joyce Carol Oates, the Roger S. Berlind ’52 Professor of Humanities and professor of creative writing in the Lewis Center for the Arts at Princeton University, will be assuming emerita status. Professor Oates has taught at Princeton since 1978. She won the National Book Award for her 1969 novel Them (Vanguard Press).
Professor Oates is a graduate of Syracuse University and holds a master’s degree in English from the University of Wisconsin-Madison.
Ann Howard Jones, a professor in the College of Fine Arts and director of choral activities at Boston University, has announced her retirement. She joined the faculty at Boston University in 1993.
Professor Jones holds bachelor’s, master’s, and doctoral degrees in music from the University of Iowa.
Charlotte Sanborn was named chair and professor emerita of kinesiology at Texas Woman’s University. She has been on the university’s faculty since 1988 and has been chair of kinesiology since 2003.
Dr. Sanborn is a graduate of Pennsylvania State University. She holds a master’s degree and a Ph.D. in exercise science from the University of Colorado at Boulder.
Elaine Engst has retired as the Dr. Peter J. Thaler ’56 University Archivist at Cornell University in Ithaca, New York. She joined the staff at Cornell Libraries in 1979 as a technical services archivist.
Engst earned a master’s degree at Cornell University in 1972.
