Sheila Bair Named the 28th President of Washington College

bairSheila Bair, the former chair of the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation, has been named the 28th president of Washington College in Chestertown, Maryland. When she takes office on August 1, Bair will be the first woman president in the history of the 233-year-old educational institution.

Bair served as head of the FDIC from 2006 to 2011. Earlier, she was Dean’s Professor of Financial Regulatory Policy in the School of Management at the University of Massachusetts at Amherst. Since leaving the FDIC, Barr has been a senior adviser to the Pew Charitable Trusts. She is the author of Bull by the Horns: Fighting to Save Main Street From Wall Street and Wall Street From Itself (Free Press, 2012).

Bair is a graduate of the University of Kansas and the University of Kansas School of Law.
