Three Women Scholars in New Teaching Roles at U.S. Universities

slp_scott_scaler_kathleenKathleen Scaler Scott was promoted to associate professor of speech-language pathology and granted tenure at Misericordia University in Dallas, Pennsylvania. A member of the Misericordia University faculty since 2009, her research includes examination of the linguistic, phonological and fluency patterns in children with autism.

Dr. Scaler Scott is a graduate of Rutgers University. She holds a master’s degree in communication disorders from Emerson College in Boston and a Ph.D. in applied language and speech sciences from the University of Louisiana, Lafayette.

NewmanWinifred E. Newman was named chair of the department of architecture at the University of Arkansas, effective July 1. She currently is an associate professor, director of advanced studies, and director of the I-CAVE Lab for Applied Visualization in the College of Architecture and the Arts at Florida International University in Miami.

Dr. Newman is a graduate of the University of Texas, where she double majored in architecture and history. She holds a master of architecture degree, a master’s degree in the history of technology and science and a Ph.D. in architecture, all from Harvard University.

Susan_GroenkeSusan Groenke was named director of the new doctoral program in children’s and young adult literature at the University of Tennessee. Dr. Groenke is an associate professor of theory and practice in teacher education and director of the Center for Children’s and Young Adult Literature.

Dr. Groenke holds bachelor’s, master’s, and doctoral degrees, all from Virginia Tech. She is the former editor of English Leadership Quarterly.
