Catherine C. Eckel was named a University Distinguished Professor at Texas A&M University. The title is bestowed in perpetuity. She has been serving as the Sara and John Lindsey Professor in the Liberal Arts and professor of economics at the university. Dr. Eckel joined the faculty at Texas A&M in 2012 after teaching at the University of Texas at Dallas.
Professor Eckel is a graduate of Virginia Commonwealth University in Richmond and holds a Ph.D. in economics from the University of Virginia.
Beth Bailey will become a Foundation Distinguished Professor at the University of Kansas this August. Currently, she is a professor of history and the acting director of the Center for the Study of Force and Diplomacy at Temple University in Philadelphia. Her most recent book is America’s Army: Making the All-Volunteer Force (Belnap Press, 2009).
Professor Bailey is a graduate of Northwestern University in Evanston, Illinois, where she majored in American culture. She holds a master’s degree and a Ph.D. in American history from the University of Chicago.
Angie Maxwell, the Blair Professor of Southern Studies and an assistant professor of political science at the University of Arkansas, has been given the additional responsibility of directing the Diana D. Blair Center of Southern Politics and Society. Dr. Maxwell is the author of The Indicted South: Public Criticism, Southern Inferiority, and the Politics of Whiteness (University of North Carolina Press, 2014).
Dr. Maxwell is a graduate of the University of Arkansas, where she majored in international relations. She earned a Ph.D. in American studies at the University of Texas.
Hee Oh was named the Abraham Robinson Professor of Mathematics at Yale University in New Haven, Connecticut. She joined the faculty at Yale in 2013 after serving on the faculty at Harvard University, CalTech, and Brown University.
Professor Oh is a graduate of Seoul National University in South Korea. She earned a Ph.D. at Yale University.
Marilyn L. Flynn was appointed to the 2U Endowed Chair in Educational Innovation and Social Work at the University of Southern California in Los Angeles. She is dean of the School of Social Work.
Professor Flynn is a graduate of Roosevelt University in Chicago. She holds a master of social work degree and a Ph.D. from the University of Illinois.
Lesley Irvine was appointed chair of the department of physical education at Pomona College in Claremont, California. She will also serve as director of athletics at the college, effective June 1. She has been serving as senior associate athletic director and senior women’s administrator at Bowling Green State University in Ohio.
Irvine is a graduate of Loughborough University in England. She earned a master’s degree in health, leisure, and sports studies from the University of Iowa.
Collin Roesler was promoted to full professor of earth and oceanographic science at Bowdoin College in Maine.
Professor Roesler is a graduate of Brown University in Providence, Rhode Island. She holds a master’s degree from Oregon State University, and a Ph.D. from the University of Washington.
Robin Buell was named a Michigan State University Foundation Professor. She will hold the title permanently and receive five years of additional research support from the university. Dr. Buell is a professor of plant biology.
Professor Buell is a graduate of the University of Maryland. She holds a master’s degree from Washington State University and a Ph.D. from Utah State University.
Kathleen A. Jamison was named professor emerita at Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University. She has been on the Virginia Tech faculty since 2000.
Professor Jamison holds bachelor’s and master’s degrees from Old Dominion University in Norfolk, Virginia. She earned a Ph.D. from Virginia Tech.
