Macalester College, the highly rated liberal arts college in St. Paul, Minnesota, announced the granting of tenure to 12 faculty members. Seven of the 12 faculty members who were granted tenure are women.
Louisa Bradtmiller teaches environmental studies at the college. Her research focuses on the ocean’s impact on climate change. Dr. Brandtmiller is a graduate of Smith College in Northampton, Massachusetts. She holds two master’s degrees and a Ph.D. in geochemistry from Columbia University.
Amy Damon is a member of the economics department faculty. Professor Damon’s research broadly focuses on household poverty reduction strategies and food security issues. She is a graduate of the University of Vermont. Dr. Damon earned a master’s degree at Michigan State University and a Ph.D. in agriculture and natural resource economics at the University of Minnesota.
Susanna Drake was awarded tenure in the department of religious studies. She teaches courses in biblical studies and early Christian history. Dr. Drake is the author of Slandering the Jew: Sexuality and Difference in Early Christian Texts (University of Pennsylvania Press, 2013). Dr. Drake is a graduate of Grinnell College in Iowa. She holds a master’s degree from Harvard Divinity School and a Ph.D. from Duke University
Corie Hammers teaches in the women’s, gender, and sexuality program at Macalester College. She holds a master’s degree from Portland State University in Oregon and a Ph.D. from the University of Oklahoma. She has had additional training in feminist theory and continental feminism at Utrecht University’s Netherlands Research School of Women’s Studies.
Alicia Johnson is an associate professor in the department of mathematics, statistics, and computer science. She joined the faculty at Macalester College in 2009. Dr. Johnson earned a bachelor’s degree at the University of Wisconsin and then worked for the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. She holds a master’s degree from Colorado State University and a Ph.D. in statistics from the University of Minnesota.
Victoria Malawey is an associate professor and chair of the department of music at the college. Prior to joining the Macalester faculty in 2011, Malawey taught at Kenyon College in Ohio. Dr. Malawey is a graduate of Roosevelt University in Chicago. She holds a master’s degree and a Ph.D. in music theory from the Jacobs School of Music at Indiana University.
Alicia Munoz teaches in the department of Hispanic and Latin American studies. Her teaching and research interests include Latin American narrative, popular culture, gender studies, border studies, and U.S. Latino/a literature. Dr. Munoz is a graduate of Swarthmore College in Pennsylvania. She earned a Ph.D. at Cornell University in Ithaca, New York.
