Three Women Scholars to Lead Organizations With Ties to Higher Education

Meredith Jung-En Woo, who served for six years as the Buckner W. Clay Dean of the Arts and Sciences at the University of Virginia, has been named director of the International Higher Education Support Program of the Open Society Foundations. In this role, she will work in London to support higher education initiatives in countries transitioning to democracy. Dr. Woo has been on sabbatical for this academic year and is schedule to begin her new job on June 1.

Dr. Woo is a native of South Korea and attended high school in Japan. She is a magna cum laude graduate of Bowdoin College in Maine. She holds a master’s degree and a Ph.D. in political science from Columbia University.

Cynthia Cherry, vice president for campus life at Princeton University in New Jersey, has announced that she will step down this summer in order to become president and CEO of the International Leadership Association, an organization for people who practice, study, and teach leadership.

Before joining the staff at Princeton five years ago, Dr. Cherry was vice president for student affairs, dean of students, and a professor in the business school at Tulane University in New Orleans. She holds a Ph.D. in communication studies from the University of Denver.

Melanie Domenech Rodriguez, professor of psychology at Utah State University, was named president-elect of the National Latina/o Psychological Association. She will serve as president-elect for one year and then become president of the association in 2016.

Dr. Rodriguez joined the faculty at Utah State University in 2000. She is a graduate of Rutgers University in New Jersey and holds a master’s degree and a Ph.D. in counseling psychology from Colorado State University.
