Eileen Hoffman Named President-Elect of the Ocean Sciences Section of the American Geophysical Union

Hoffman, professor of ocean, earth, and atmospheric sciences at Old Dominion University n Norfolk, Virginia, was named president-elect of the ocean sciences section of the American Geophysical Union. She will serve a two-year term as president-elect beginning in January. She will become president of the AGU in January 2017 and will serve in that post for two years. The ocean sciences section of the AGU has more than 6,000 members with interests in various aspects of marine and ocean science.

Professor Hoffman has been on the faculty at Old Dominion University since 1989 and was promoted to full professor in 1995. Earlier, she served on the faculty at Texas A&M University. Dr. Hoffman has been a member of the American Geophysical Union since 1978. She is the co-editor of the Journal of Marine Systems and is co-editor of the book Foundations for Ecological Research West of the Antarctic Peninsula (AGU, 1996).

Professor Hoffman is a graduate of Chestnut Hill College in Philadelphia. She earned a master’s degree and a Ph.D. at North Carolina State University in Raleigh.
