Lawrence University in Wisconsin Hires Three Women to Its Faculty

LawrenceLogoLawrence University in Appleton, Wisconsin, has hired six new tenure-track, assistant professors for the 2014-15 academic year. Three of the six new hires are women.

carruthersHillary Carruthers was named assistant professor of economics. During the previous academic year, she was a visiting assistant professor at Berry College in Mount Berry, Georgia. In 2011, she was a visiting instructor at the Hanoi University of Agriculture in Vietnam. Dr. Carruthers is a graduate of Brigham Young University in Provo, Utah. She holds a master’s degree and a Ph.D. in agricultural and applied economics from the University of Wisconsin-Madison.

apclavanyaproctorwhosLavanya Proctor was appointed assistant professor of anthropology. She taught at Lawrence University from 2010 to 2012 as a visiting assistant professor and a post-doctoral fellow. She then accepted a position as lecturer in anthropology at Buffalo State University in New York. Dr. Proctor earned a bachelor’s degree and two master’s degrees at the University of Delhi in India. She also holds a master’s degree and a Ph.D. in anthropology from the University of Iowa.

apcmelissarangewhosMelissa Range was hired as an assistant professor of English. She was on the faculty at the University of Missouri. Dr. Range is the author of Horse and Rider: Poems (Texas Tech University Press, 2013). She is a graduate of the University of Tennessee and holds master’s degree from Old Dominion University and Emory University. Dr. Range earned her Ph.D. in English and creative writing at the University of Missouri.
