Mary Jean DeMarr, a retired professor of English and women’s studies at Indiana State University, died on April 22, at a senior living facility in Terre Haute, Indiana. She was 90 years old.
A native of Champlain, Illinois, Dr. DeMarr held a bachelor’s degree in English from Lawrence University in Appleton, Wisconsin, and a master’s degree and a Ph.D. in English from the University of Illinois.
Dr. DeMarr taught at Willamette College in Salem, Oregon, before joining the department of English at Indiana State University, where she specialized in American literature and was instrumental in the development of the women’s studies program.
