
Dr. Coleman has been president of the University of Michigan since 2002. She is the first woman to hold the post. Dr. Coleman will step down as president in July. After stepping down from her position as president of the University of Michigan, she will continue to be involved in higher education and research by serving on the advisory committee of the director of the National Institutes of Health and on the board of directors of the Society for Science and the Public.
Earlier in her career, Dr. Coleman was president of the University of Iowa and spent nearly 20 years on the faculty at the University of Kentucky. A graduate of Grinnell College in Iowa, Dr. Coleman earned a Ph.D. in biochemistry from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
