Princeton University in New Jersey has announced the appointment of 13 new faculty members. Of the 13 new hires, five are women. One is an associate professor and four are assistant professors.
Charlotte Metcalf was appointed assistant professor of ecology and evolutionary biology. She will hold a joint appointment in the Woodrow Wilson School of Public and International Affairs. She has been conducting postdoctoral research at the Max Planck Institute for Demographic Research, Duke University, Princeton University, and the University of Oxford.
Dr. Metcalf is a graduate of the University of Oxford and earned a Ph.D. at Imperial College London.
Yulia Mikhaylova was named assistant professor of mechanical and aerospace engineering. She was conducting research at the Max Planck Institute for Quantum Optics and is a former research fellow at the Russian Academy of Sciences.
Dr. Mikhaylova holds master’s and doctoral degrees from Lomonosov Moscow State University in Russia.
Naomi Murakawa is a new associate professor of African American studies. Since 2005, she had served on the faculty at the University of Washington, where she taught courses in American politics.
Dr. Murakawa is a graduate of Columbia University in New York City. She earned a master’s degree at the London School of Economics and a Ph.D. at Yale University.
LaFleur Stephens will join the Princeton faculty next July as an assistant professor of politics. She is currently conducting postdoctoral research at Princeton.
Dr. Stephens is a graduate of the University of Rochester and holds a Ph.D. from the University of Michigan.
Mengdi Wang will join the faculty at Princeton next summer as an assistant professor in operations research and financial engineering. She is currently an associate research scholar at Princeton.
A graduate of Tsinghua University, she holds a Ph.D. from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.

Cheryl Norman was appointed president of Ridgewater College in Minnesota and Ellen Kennedy was named interim president of Cape Cod Community College in Massachusetts.
Dr. Scarlatta has led the University of Michigan-Dearbon on an interim basis for the past year. Pending approval from the board of regents, she is slated to become the university's permanent leader on May 22.
Nicole Reaves has been serving as executive vice president and chief programs officer at Wake Technical Community College in Raleigh, North Carolina. On July 15, she is slated to become the first woman president of Schenectady County Community College within the State University of New York System.
