Three Women Join the Faculty at MIT

The School of Humanities, Arts, and Social Sciences at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology has announced the hiring of six new faculty members. Three of the new hires are women.

MIT Faculty
Sana Aiyar, Regina Bateson, and Catherine E. Clark

Sana Aiyar is a new assistant professor of history. She was an assistant professor of history at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. Dr. Aiyar has a book under contract with Harvard University Press on South Asians in Kenya during the period 1895 to 1968. Dr. Aiyer is a graduate of Delhi University in India. She holds a master’s degree from the University of Cambridge and a Ph.D. from Harvard University.

Regina Bateson was appointed an assistant professor of political science at MIT. She recently completed her Ph.D. at Yale University where her dissertation examined the long-term consequences of civil war. She conducted extensive field work in Guatemala. Dr. Bateson is a graduate of Stanford University and worked as a foreign service officers for the U.S. State Department.

Catherine E. Clark is a new assistant professor of French studies. She is working on a book that uses photographs to document the history of Paris since the late nineteenth century. Dr. Clark is a graduate of Swarthmore College in Pennsylvania. She holds a master’s degree in cultural studies from Columbia University and a Ph.D. in history from the University of Southern California.

The First Woman President of Schenectady County Community College in New York

Nicole Reaves has been serving as executive vice president and chief programs officer at Wake Technical Community College in Raleigh, North Carolina. On July 15, she is slated to become the first woman president of Schenectady County Community College within the State University of New York System.

The selected candidate should have expertise and experience in theoretical models in labor and public economics as well as in microeconometrics and programming.
