Six Women Appointed to New Faculty Posts

hatterman-ValentiHarlene Hatterman-Valenti was promoted to full professor in the College of Agriculture, Food Systems, and Natural Resources at the University of North Dakota.

Dr. Hatterman-Valenti is a graduate of the University of Nebraska at Kearney. She holds a master’s degree from the University of Nebraska at Lincoln and a Ph.D. in agronomy from Iowa State University.

Archer_Nicole_Image_smallNicole Archer has been appointed assistant professor in history and theory of contemporary art at the San Francisco Institute of Art. She has been a visiting faculty member at the institute since 2009.

She earned a Ph.D. in history of consciousness from the University of California at Santa Cruz.

Cress_0Anne E. Cress, professor of cellular and molecular medicine and radiation oncology at the University of Arizona, was named interim director of the University of Arizona Cancer Center. Dr. Cress joined the faculty at the university in 1980 and was named full professor in 1996.

Dr. Cress earned a bachelor’s degree and a Ph.D. in biochemistry and molecular biology at the University of Arizona.

BowerAmandaAmanda Bower was appointed the inaugural holder of the Charles C. Holbrook Jr. ’72 Professorship at Washington and Lee University in Lexington, Virginia. She is a professor of business administration at the university.

Professor Bower joined the university’s faculty in 2002 and was promoted to full professor in 2012. She is an associate editor of the Journal of Advertising. Dr. Bower is a graduate of the University of Richmond and earned a Ph.D. at the University of South Carolina.

gellingVictoria Gelling was named to the Walter F. and Verna Gerhts Endowed Professorship at North Dakota State University. She has been serving as an associate professor of coatings and polymeric materials.

Dr. Gelling is a graduate of the University of North Dakota. She earned a Ph.D. in chemistry from North Dakota State University.

HoardAdrienne Walker Hoard was named director of the Black Studies Program at the University of Missouri-Kansas City. She has been serving as professor of art and art education at the University of Missouri-Columbia. She previously taught at Ohio State University and Louisiana State University.

Professor Hoard is a graduate of Lincoln University in Jefferson City, Missouri. She holds a master’s degree from the University of Michigan and doctorate in education from the University of Illinois.
