Deb Boykin, director of residence life and associate vice president for student affairs at the College of William and Mary in Williamsburg, Virginia, has had an award named in her honor by the Virginia Association of College and University Housing Officers. The Deb Boykin Outstanding Professional Award is the association’s highest honor.
Boykin has served on the staff of the college for 33 years. She holds a bachelor’s degree and a master’s degree in education from The College of William and Mary.
Michelle M. Lusardi, professor emerita of physical therapy at Sacred Heart University in Fairfield, Connecticut, received the Lucy Blair Service Award from the American Physical Therapy Association at the group’s annual conference and exhibition, held recently in Salt Lake City.
Dr. Lusardi is a graduate of the SUNY Downstate Medical Center in Brooklyn, New York. She holds a master’s degree and a Ph.D. in family studies/gerontology from the University of Connecticut.
Michelle Johnson, an associate professor of practice in multimedia journalism at Boston University, received the 2013 Journalism Educator of the Year award from the National Association of Black Journalists. Before joining the faculty at Boston University, she was an editor at the Boston Globe.
Professor Johnson is a graduate of the University of Maryland and holds a master’s degree in journalism from Columbia University.
Cynthia Deale, an associate professor of hospitality management in the College of Human Ecology at East Carolina University in Greenville, North Carolina, received the 2013 Lamp of Knowledge Award for Outstanding Educator in the United States from the American Hotel and Lodging Educational Institute.
Professor Deale is the past president of the Council on Hotel, Restaurant, and Institutional Education. She is a graduate of the University of Puget Sound in Tacoma, Washington, and holds a master’s degree from Michigan State University and a doctorate from the University of Denver.
Cheryl Burke Jarvis, professor and chair of the marketing department at Southern Illinois University Carbondale was named the 2013 Reviewer of the Year by the Journal of Service Research.
Dr. Jarvis earned bachelor’s and master’s degrees from Texas A & M University. She earned a second master’s degree and a Ph.D. in business from Indiana University.
Nancy Keselyak, an associate professor at the University of Missouri at Kansas City, received the Dental Hygiene Educator of the Year Award at the annual meeting of the American Dental Hygienists Association in Boston. Professor Keselyak has served on the faculty at the University of Missouri at Kansas City since 1999.
Keselyak is a graduate of the University of Maryland. She holds a master’s degree from Simon Fraser University in British Columbia, Canada.
Corina Sandu, associate professor of mechanical engineering and the director of the Advanced Vehicle Dynamics Laboratory at Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University, received the Forest R. McFarland Award from the Society of Automotive Engineers International.
Dr. Sandu is a graduate of the Bucharest Polytechnic Institute. She holds a master’s degree and a Ph.D. in mechanical engineering from the University of Iowa.
Dr. Recasner has over two decades of experience as a tenured faculty member and senior administration in higher education. She has been serving as the interim president of Seattle Central University.
Dr. Quiñones, who has been serving as president of California State University, Monterey Bay, is slated to become the first Latina president of California State Polytechnic University, Pomona on July 1.
Dr. Cooper Whitehead brings extensive experience in student affairs and academic leadership to her new role. She comes to Regis university from Boston College, where she has served as vice president of student affairs since 2021.
