Six Women in New Faculty Roles

m_henryMadeleine Henry was named director of the School of Languages and Culture in the College of Liberal Arts at Purdue University in West Lafayette, Indiana. She has been serving as a professor of classical studies at Iowa State University.

Professor Henry is the co-editor of Greek Prostitutes in the Ancient Mediterranean, 800 BCE-200 CE (University of Wisconsin Press, 2011).

jones Karyn2Karyn Ogata Jones was appointed chair of the communication studies department in the College of Architecture, Arts, and Humanities at Clemson University in South Carolina. Dr. Jones has been on the Clemson faculty since 2002.

Dr. Jones holds a master’s degree in speech communication and a Ph.D. in mass communication from the University of Georgia.

Debra-DeLaetDebra DeLaet was named to the Herb and Karen Baum Chair of Ethics and the Professions at Drake University in Des Moines, Iowa. Dr. DeLaet is a professor of politics and international relations at the university.

Professor DeLaet is a graduate of Miami University in Ohio. She holds a master’s degree and a Ph.D. from the University of Notre Dame.

remmelKerri S. Remmel was appointed chair of the department of neurology at the University of Louisville School of Medicine. She joined the faculty at the medical school in 2000 and two years later was appointed director of the Stroke Center at the University of Louisville Hospital.

Dr. Remmel holds bachelor’s and master’s degrees and a Ph.D. in communication disorders and linguistics, all from Louisiana State University.

Cynthia_GordonCynthia Gordon was named chair of the department of communication and rhetorical studies of the College of Visual and Performing Arts at Syracuse University. She is the author of Making Meanings, Creating Family: Intertextuality and Framing in Family Interaction (Oxford University Press, 2009).

Dr. Gordon earned a Ph.D. at Georgetown University in Washington. D.C.

Turner-GoinsR. Turner Goins was named the inaugural Ambassador Jeanette Hyde Distinguished Professor of Gerontological Social Work at Western Carolina University in Cullowhee, North Carolina. She has been serving as an associate professor in the College of Public Health and Human Sciences at Oregon State University. She was also the associate director of the Center for Healthy Aging Research at Oregon State.

Dr. Goins is a graduate of East Carolina University and holds a master’s degree and a Ph.D. in gerontology from the University of Massachusetts at Boston.
