Eve Marder Wins the $500,000 Gruber Neuroscience Prize

eve-marder2-thumbEve Marder, the Victor and Gwendolyn Beinfield Professor of Neuroscience at Brandeis University in Waltham, Massachusetts, has been chosen to receive the 2013 Gruber Neuroscience Prize from the Gruber Foundation. The award, given to a scientist for outstanding research in neuroscience, comes with a $500,000 cash prize.

Dr. Marder’s research focuses on a network of large neurons located in the guts of lobsters and crabs. Carol Barnes, chair of the selection advisory board for the Gruber Neuroscience Prize, stated, “Eve Marder has made a number of remarkable and groundbreaking discoveries that have fundamentally changed our understanding of how neural circuits operate and produce behavior. She has also been an exceptional leader outside the laboratory, working tirelessly to bring people together to improve scientific research, policy, and education.”

Dr. Marder is a graduate of Brandeis University. She holds a Ph.D. from the University of California at San Diego.
