Five Women Scholars Honored With Awards

georgGunda I. Georg, professor and chair of the department of medicinal chemistry at the University of Minnesota College of Pharmacy, has been selected to receive the Volwiler Research Achievement Award from the American Association of Colleges of Pharmacy. The award will be presented at the association’s annual meeting in Chicago this July.

Dr. Georg, who holds the Robert Vince Endowed Chair in Medicinal Chemistry and is the director of the Institute for Therapeutics Discovery and Development, has been on the University of Minnesota faculty since 2007. Previously, she taught for 13 years at the University of Kansas. Professor Georg holds bachelor’s and Ph.D. degrees from the University of Marburg in Germany.

jill-manners-award-for-webJill Manners, associate professor and director of the athletic training program at Western Carolina University in Cullowhee, North Carolina, was selected to receive the Gail Weldon Award of Excellence from the National Athletic Trainers’ Association. She will be presented with the award at the association’s annual conference in Las Vegas next month.

Professor Manners is a graduate of Ithaca College in New York. She holds master’s degrees from West Virginia University and Western Carolina University.

SelbyBarbara S. Selby, manager of research and information services for the University of Virginia Library, has won the 2013 James Bennett Child Award for lifetime achievement from the American Library Association.

The award honors “an individual who has made a lifetime and significant contribution to the field of documents librarianship. The award is based on stature, service and publication, which may be in any or all areas of documents librarianship.”

JinHongGang-WaltonAwardApril2013-CroppedWEBHong Gang Jin, the William R. Kenan Professor of East Asian Languages and Literature at Hamilton College in Clinton, New York, received the 2013 Walton Award from the National Council of Less Commonly Taught Languages.

Professor Jin is a graduate of Shanxi University in China. She holds a master’s degree and a Ph.D. in educational psychology from the University of Illinois.

Teno.tJoan Teno, professor of health services at Brown University in Providence, Rhode Island, received the inaugural Quality Leadership Award from the National Hospice and Palliative Care Organization.

Dr. Teno is a graduate of Wilkes College in Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania, and the Hahnemann Medical University in Philadelphia. She also earned a master’s degree in community health at Brown University.
